Tom Castor, operations manager, began working with United Sciences Testing, Inc. (USTI) in November 2002, spreading his time among several American Electric Power (AEP) business groups. In early 2003, Tom became a full-time member of Mike Brown’s USTI team. He moved to the Operations Manager position in early 2005.

Tom and his staff are responsible for scheduling testing with clients, safely completing our work, maintaining equipment and a staff of trained technicians to perform testing for our clients, developing the procedures and policies for testing and developing new testing products. In addition, Tom assists in strategic planning, contracting and growing the company. Tom’s qualifications include successfully taking the Source Tester Qualification Examination for both Group 1 and Group 4. He is also a Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio.

Prior to his current position, Tom was involved in several areas within AEP. He joined a subsidiary of the company in 1970 as an industrial engineer, meeting large industrial customers to offer ideas on electric technologies and solutions to service problems. In 1976, Tom joined the rates and tariffs department, where he was responsible for both contract management and developing filings for the utility commission and interacted regularly with the Public Utility Commission staff.

Since then, Tom has worked as director of energy services, creating industrial programs for all seven of the original AEP utility operating companies. He has also served as leader of the development team for the key account program. As a marketing manager in an AEP engineering company, Tom developed the company’s business plan and was responsible for all of the marketing activities and strategic growth projects. Tom’s other areas of expertise include work in other non-regulated business for AEP as well.
